Moving-Toward Counseling

While avoiding something can relieve your immediate anxiety, it can have unhelpful long-term consequences. Avoidance can prevent you from learning to overcome your fears and experience life more freely. Together, we will help you to stop avoiding your fears by doing the following:

  1. Recognize avoidance tendencies

  2. Start small by challenging avoidance

  3. Problem-solve rather than escape

  4. Find courage in the discomfort

Maybe you have been putting off clothing shopping due to grief about recent body changes. Maybe you have avoided social events due to fear of embarrassment. Maybe you have continually rescheduled a much needed doctors visit due to fear of positive results.

Whatever it is, you should not have to approach these situations alone. Moving-Toward counseling allows you to confront these challenges with the support and encouragement of a trusted professional. Overtime, your confidence will improve and you will feel increasingly at ease approaching these challenges on your own.
